Independent Study is a voluntary alternative to regular classroom instruction. The mission of the North Monterey County Center for Independent Study (NMCCIS) is the formation of an educational partnership between students, staff, parents and the community to foster academic and personal growth in an individualized alternative academic setting. Students achieve mastery of the state standards and pursue areas of special interest under the personal guidance of highly qualified instructors. Out-of-district students from Monterey and adjacent counties are welcomed provided they meet entry qualifications and are approved for transfer by their home district of attendance.
NMCCIS was established in 1986. Its experienced and fully credentialled full-time staff offers UC approved a-g coursework instruction in all areas except foreign language, as well as a K-8 program. The high school program is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC.)
